The Florida Region had an amazing showing up at the 2016 USAT Collegiate & High School National Championships held up at Clemson South Carolina. We had the largest team of Florida athletes ever to compete at these Nationals over the years.
Some of our best results came from Melissa Rios LaLuz from Webber University who came fourth in the Draft Legal race and Armando Abaunza from Florida State University. He was in the chase pack in the men’s draft legal race, and was crashed out by another competitor, but backed up his amazing showing by coming in the top 5% of the Olympic Non-Draft Race. Kalina Pauhovska from the University of Miami had a great race in the Women’s Olympic Non-Draft coming in the top 20%.
All Florida athletes had great races, with many setting personal records during the weekend, these results were marvelous for Florida as there were over 1800 College athletes from around the USA racing just in the Olympic race. Florida also had a great showing in the High School Nationals as well. Lachlan Hovius from Central Florida came third outright, which was incredible as a freshman.
