USA Triathlon Florida Regional Championships

It’s a new year—it’s time to plan your 2016 race calendar! USA Triathlon’s Florida Region is excited to announce a series of fantastic and varied championship races that you definitely don’t want to miss. There’s something for everyone: a Regional Qualifier, a Long Course Championship and the Youth Regional Championship, plus a very special four-part Club Championship series.

Clermont will be the place to be for all triathletes on the weekend of March 19 and 20. The Region’s championship races will kick off on Saturday, March 19 with the 32nd Annual Florida Challenge – The Intimidator, serving as the Region’s 2016 Long Course Championship. Complete the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike race and a half-marathon distance run and you’ll definitely earn early season bragging rights.

Sunday’s International distance triathlon, the 33rd year of the Great Clermont Triathlon, will serve as the Florida Region’s Regional Qualifier. If you hope to compete at USAT’s National Championship in Omaha, Nebraska, you need to be in Clermont on March 20 in order to qualify. Of course, it’ll be a rousing good time for everyone looking to race at one of Florida’s most scenic courses.

Florida has over seventy USAT-registered triathlon clubs ranging from ones with a few members to those with several thousand. The Florida Region has pulled out all the stops with a very exciting and competitive four-race Club Championship series scheduled to begin on April 9 at the Red Hills Triathlon in Tallahassee. The second and third club races will be in Sarasota at the Storm Challenge Triathlon on May 22 and the Jacksonville Triathlon Olympic & Sprint Triathlon on July 16 in Fernandina Beach. On July 24 the series concludes at the 25th Annual Huntington’s Disease Triathlon in Miami. Every triathlon club in Florida is definitely going to want to compete to fly its banners and hoist its colors as the best tri club in the Sunshine state.

The Heartland Triathlon in Sebring will once again host the Florida Region’s Youth Regional Championship. Scheduled for June 18, the 2016 Youth Regional Championship offers two age-appropriate youth races. Ages 6 to 10 will swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles and end their race with a half-mile run. Youth aged 11 to 15 will compete in a 200-yard swim, a bike course of 6 miles and a one-mile run.

Get working on your 2016 race calendars and register for one or more of the Florida Region’s championship events. There’s going to be plenty of fun for everyone, not to mention some great SWAG. This will also be the perfect time to meet some of the very enthusiastic Florida Region council members. See you at the races!
